La dinamica economica del Mezzogiorno

The volume aims to provide a reconstruction and analysis of the dynamics of the Southern Italian economy, from the post-World War II period to the conclusion of the "extraordinary intervention," in relation to the Italian and international economic context and the impact of national and regional policies adopted, starting from the experience and role played by the Cassa per il Mezzogiorno in development, for which valuable testimonies are presented. The research addresses aspects of particular interest, such as economic and social transformations and the role of institutions and human capital, and focuses on the transition from pre-industrialization policy to industrialization and the issue of North-South financial flows. Significant emphasis is also placed on the role played during the period considered by specific sectors for the development of the South: industry, infrastructure for roads and transport, agriculture, energy, and education. The picture is completed by an analysis of the financial system in connection with the development of the South and a reflection on the effects of illegality on development policies.
