Dal Mezzogiorno

This volume presents a reexamination of what has been done and what has not been done to promote the industrialization of the Mezzogiorno and the economic unification of the peninsula, from the post-war period onwards. An examination of events, facilitated by the author's direct participation in the life of Svimez, from 1967 to 1978: a crucial decade in which "the era of great growth culminated, but public action in favor of the development of the Mezzogiorno also culminated," subsequently weakened. While the examination generally confirms that the time for economic policy decisions is not always deferrable, it specifically reaffirms the constant necessity of a correct and useful identification of the north-south "divide" and a clear distinction between complacent support policies and the far more demanding development policies
