He obtained his PhD in Economic History from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) and his MPhil in Economic and Social History from the University of Oxford. His main research interests concern the development of the Italian economy in the 19th and 20th centuries, with particular focus on the labor market, human capital, internal migrations, development policies, and territorial disparities.
