Regional Disparities, Development Policies and Economic Impacts in Southern Italy
A new long-term perspective (1950–2024)
This volume will be shortly available in Open Access at the Peter Lang homepage.
This volume, the result of interdisciplinary work by a large team of scholars, offers an analysis of territorial disparities, public intervention strategies, and industrial development in Southern Italy from a long-term perspective. It aims to understand the economic dynamics of contemporary Italy and its positioning in the context of European and global interdependencies. The authors' contributions provide a systemic interpretation of the "Southern Question," based on a modern and updated vision. This approach considers the South as an "open problem" and, at the same time, an opportunity for overall growth for the country. In this way, it is possible to overcome old approaches to Italian dualism or purely localistic models, measuring the Southern phenomenon in relation to general economic trends and the evolution of capitalism itself.
